ADX Architects wins the ubiquitous Asia Pacific Property Awards for the boutique hotel Populous Hotel in Singapore.
Populous Hotel is a boutique hotel located in the heart of the city along Middle Road in Singapore. Consisting of 80 keys, the hotel also includes a sky terrace that boasts city views.
The project was a culmination of an integrated suite of design services including architecture, interior design and overall hotel branding.
Faci wanted to erect a stand-alone building on its existing industrial site in Jurong Island to house its Asia Pacific corporate office.
It must be emblematic of the company’s sustainable corporate image, be able to accommodate an expanding business, as well as cater for client collaborations. The five-story building won a BCA Green Mark Gold Plus Award.

A 30-year-old semi-detached house was extensively altered for outdoor enjoyment, family interaction and preservation of greenery.
Spaces are opened up by replacing walls with sliding aluminium glass doors, living areas were extended, lines between indoor and outdoor spaces blurred and sliding timber screens on the master bedroom balcony installed for shade and privacy.
Universal Building Products, Singapore is a specialist supplier of tiles. The space was a 2000 ft2 open concept platform that was to be their first showroom for their products. Besides showcase the large range of homogeneous and ceramic tiles, the area was to cater for a discussion and consultation area. Their target audience was for architects and designers as well as developers.
The inspiration for our design came from the idea of showcasing the files akin to art work in a gallery. The minimalist aesthetic accentuated.
Semi-Detached homes are common in Singapore, where developers tend to build rows of houses next to each other.
However, when this homeowner wanted to rebuild the home on his semi-d property, he wondered if the new house could get a whole new look. This project was undertaken by local studio ADX Architects.
A vertical green wall transforms the look and feel of this residence.
Privacy is at a premium when you’re hemmed in by buildings on either side but when faced with realities of urban living in land-scare Singapore, homeowners can usually be relied upon to come up with creative solutions to their new.
Having lived in this terrace house for over 30 years, this local family felt a natural connection to the property yet the two-storey building was beginning to look its age. The homeowners felt it was time to give the home a fresh look.

My experience includes the high rise and landed residential projects, commercial projects, retail and mixed used developments. These projects brought me valuable insights to working in both developed nations of Singapore as well as developing areas in China, India and Vietnam.
The house is an inter terrace house in the lush verdant surrounds of Thomson suburbs, facing the fields of James Cook University. Our clients were a couple who had bought the old single storey house as their matrimonial home. The intention was to demolish and rebuild a new house.
With the hustle and bustle of city dwelling comes a yearning to feel more connected to the natural environment.
Architect Casey Chua of ADX Architects fulfilled a family’s desire to live comfortably in a modern, spacious abode that would allow them to stay closely-knit, and to have a home that responds to climactic needs (in other words, a sustainable home that’s aligned with their idea of green living).

The existing semi-detached house was a 30 year old house that had stood the test of time. Our clients approached us for a reconstruction of the existing house – with a intent to cater for their family consisting of the couple and their 2 young children.
From the start, our brief was not to maximize the buildable area. The family appreciated the outdoors and the greenery in front of the house was to be preserved. It was a play area the kids would most enjoy on a elevated land a few steps above the car porch.
The Green Wall House by ADX Architects in Singapore has a prominent green wall that acts as a buffer zone to detach the house slightly from a neighbouring house.
Say the architects, “Our Client’s requirements were specific in their response to certain spaces. The living area was to be comfortably spacious and the dining and kitchen were important social areas both for entertaining friends as well as spending quality time with family.”
“The house has an east-west orientation. The front facade faces almost directly west. Our Clients were concerned about the western sun. However, the views from the front were superior to the rear. The challenge was to provide views whilst not compromising on natural light, ventilation and privacy.”

The signature feature of this three-storey semi-detached house is a nine-meter-high green wall that stretches from the second storey to the peak. Postitioned at the party wall, it acts as a conceptual buffer of sorts to the neighbouring house.
The greenery also serves as a natural air filtration system that helps to remove toxins from and release oxygen in the air.
We were engaged to design a family home for the Tangs, a family of 4. They have 2 children in their teens, and their needs were simply to provide for a comfortable and modern abode that would allow for their family to spend memorable times and stay closely knitted. It was envisioned the home would be sustainable as well, hopefully for the generations to come.
We were engaged to design the new office for William Grant & Sons. Founded in Scotland in 1887, they are a premium spirits company which distributes some of the world’s leading brands of Scotch whisky.
Our design brief was to relocate the company from an existing office of 1000 ft2 to a larger space of about 3000 ft2. The office was looking forward to an expansion with potential relocation of their headquarters from Shanghai to Singapore.
We drew inspiration from their premium brands of whisky, including Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, Hendrick’s Gin and Sailor Jerry Rum. These well-known brands have developed a strong global following and they are accompanied by strong branding guidelines. These guidelines were developed some quirky and iconic imagery and inspired our design for the office interior.
